Lisadell HouseLisadell House, a Grecian revival mansion, situated in North Sligo, (10 minutes from Mullaghmore) was built in the 1830's. It was once home to the Gore-Booth family. The artic explorer, Henry Goore-Booth was born in the house in 1843, as were his daughters, Eva and Constance. Constance, a political activist, married a Polish Count to become Countess Markievicz. She played a leading role in the 1916 Rising, escaping execution only because she was a woman. Eva and Constance were friends of W B Yeats, who spent much time in Lisadell House, writing poetry. Eva too was a poet. Lisadell House is the only stately home in Sligo, which is open to the public.
