Inishmurray Island

Boat trips (arranged through Beach Hotel) depart daily during peak season from Mullaghmore to this 225 acre island 14 miles away. Inishmurray Island was home to 102 people until they left for the mainland in 1948. It is now un-inhabited, except for the fantastic plant and bird life. Inishmurray, meaning the island of 'Mulreach' (who was the first bishop of Killala and founder of the Island's first Christian Monastery), has many ancient remains of houses, churches and monuments.
